Despite wider educational and employment opportunities for working class women in Wales after 1945, there was little change in women’s powers or in the roles that married women were expected to fulfil as housewives and mothers. However, an important turning point for some women was provided by the need to support their striking husbands during the Miners’ Strike of 1984-5.
