Rhondda women: the high price of unremitting toil

“Women paid a high price for their response to the demands of domestic labour. The unremitting toil of childbirth and domestic labour killed or debilitated Rhondda women as accidents and conditions in the mines killed and maimed Rhondda men. What is startling is the extent of women’s sacrifice and the way it was accepted without being noticed or questioned” (Dot Jones)
