Interview of Eddie Thomas, Mr Davis, Percy Sallinger, William Jones, Mr Reynolds and Mr Cousins, members of the Resolven Miners Welfare Institute and former miners at Glyncastle and Rheola Pits. They talk about mechanisation and the problems it caused, working the coal seams, the effect of nationalisation, the possibility of mining the remaining coal, the productivity of the pit, working conditions, labour relations and the lack of consultation between the workforce and management, the change from steam to electricity, the shortage of manpower at the pit, the Cory brothers, the use of inappropriate mining techniques, wages, what happened to the community since Glyncastle closed and the effect a new drift mine could have and the problems of trying to keep the welfare institute open |
