Includes a discussion of the debates which took place in the public house where he lived during his childhood; an account of the Cambrian strike, including looting of the shops; police accomodation at the pub, and their attitudes towards the strikers; trade during the strikes; attitudes towards blacklegs; billeting of extra troops and police to the area; workers relationship with the management during World War I; price of beer during the War, fights and drunkeness in the pub, women's drinking habits, and games played; food eaten by the family; position of the Welsh language; and the importance of rugby in the Rhondda valley
